About
the League
During the year 1991 the idea was floated by Peter Thomas of Malone and
eventually accepted by Council that a golf league be inaugurated covering
the Greater Belfast/North Down areas with the following aims and
objectives.
- It would be more social than competitive and was aimed golfers in
similar circumstances.
- No green fees would be involved and the home team would provide a snack
lunch
- Matches would be on a home and away basis - league format - match play and
with six fourballs per match.
- Matches would be played at times when participating clubs were not busy (
9.15 is now the accepted time except where stated otherwise and Malone
agreed Wednesday for their home matches )
- Twelve clubs to form the league. ( There are now fourteen )
- Matches would be held between the beginning of May and the end of
September
To qualify participants would be 60 plus, and retired from primary
employment
